Olga’s water broke near 5 AM, and of course, that was because we weren’t fully prepared! Bags were thought about but not packed. The infant car seat was in the car–uninstalled, in a box, in the trunk. Oy.

But wait, there’s more. We were supposed to meet Michael’s new teacher in the afternoon. And, and, and we were supposed to take Michael to his first day of school the next day.

Michael's first day at school
Thank you Mom for getting Michael to school on his first day!

Where was I? So, we got things together while trying to sort everything out and then headed to Castle Rock Adventist to meet our new little man Sean. Sean had other ideas; wanted to wait things out until later in the night. And as the night wore on, and even though Olga’s pain was through the roof it didn’t seem like he would join us until early in the morning on the 9th. And Olga loves number 2 and number 8–so she dreamed of him joining us tonight on the 8th day of the 8th month in 2018!

Once we got to Castle Rock Adventist we headed into the emergency entrance as instructed and checked in. Somewhere in this process, we remembered to call Olga’s OBGYN and let them know the game was on.

After check-in, we were taken to Labor and Delivery on the third floor (where Chris was crossing his fingers and hoping we’d get the Big Room). And they took us to the Big Room. I’m talking like if this was a hotel room it would be two or three grand a night. But since it was a labor, delivery, and recovery room at a major hospital it was probably only double that.

But the view! The view from the room is amazing. And plenty of room for a nine-foot pool table. But we were not there for the view or the fun (according to Olga, and this thing she had going on with labor and all).]

Skipping, skipping, skipping tests, monitors, measurements and questions later and my beloved Olga’s sitting in many different positions in order to relieve the pain of Sean turning sideways and stretching out as far as he could inside of her. Sean was a relatively fast but absolutely painful delivery. After less than five hours of labor, our little man joined us.

Dr. Kelly M. Lennon was the umpire and I was the catcher. As soon as Sean’s head appeared Dr. Lennon pulled my hands to Sean’s head and guided me on the moves. As Sean made it into the world of the real I was able to hold him first. He was crying within seconds and then Sean was rested skin to skin on mom for several hours while the team did their work. Dr. Lennon is an easy going, serious professional who becomes all business in the delivery–amazing to see him and the teamwork. And he has a real sense of humor. As he handed me the scissors to cut Sean’s umbilical cord he said, “This is where you decide if he’ll be an innie or an outie.” Some of the nurses looked at him incredulously, one asked “Really?” He laughed and let us know he was joking. Way cool. 🙂

As Sean was set on Olga’s chest he smiled (crazy cute), then pouted (even cuter), and laid there with his eyes closed and mouth moving like he was ready to begin feeding! That part is amazing as we were told to not expect him to breastfeed–but he came out wanting to!

We didn’t realize it until after it happened but our precious Sean Christopher Eller was born August 8, 2018, and 22:28 hours! Way to go Olga! :)[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Good news – Sean’s homecoming and digestion diagnosis

GOOD NEWS-ONE of TWO So the labs came back today from the biopsies several days ago and Sean’s digestive issues can be solved with surgery. The diagnosis is Hirschsprung’s (HIRSH-sproongz) disease, which doesn’t sound great and of course its better to have no issues–but this one though rare is common enough that it can be…
